據(jù)高等學(xué)校外語專業(yè)教學(xué)指導(dǎo)委員會制定的《高等學(xué)校英語專業(yè)英語教學(xué)大綱》，閱讀課程是英語專業(yè)本科基礎(chǔ)階段的一門專業(yè)必修課程，其中，快速閱讀是英語專業(yè)閱讀課程的主要內(nèi)容之一�？焖匍喿x旨在培養(yǎng)英語專業(yè)學(xué)生快速閱讀的技能和技巧，培養(yǎng)學(xué)生通過閱讀快速獲取知識和信息的能力，培養(yǎng)英語專業(yè)學(xué)生語言能力、語言基本功和語言素養(yǎng)。
高等學(xué)�！队⒄Z專業(yè)快速閱讀》（1～4冊）教材由王揚教授擔(dān)任總主編。參與編寫教材的人員有劉娜、劉晶晶、周化嬡、龔小燕、喬淑霞、孔云軍等。
教材每冊設(shè)計16個單元（共32篇文章），每個單元包括與專題內(nèi)容相關(guān)的2篇閱讀材料，短文字?jǐn)?shù)控制在800-1000詞，設(shè)計閱讀量要求學(xué)生10分鐘左右完成。每篇文章設(shè)計5道選擇題（其中，2道涉及文章主題或大意，3道涉及內(nèi)容細(xì)節(jié)），要求學(xué)生在規(guī)定時間內(nèi)選擇出正確的答案。教材在語料選擇上注意題材、體裁的多樣化（科技、文學(xué)、語言、文化、社會、習(xí)俗、生活等）；在內(nèi)容上力求體現(xiàn)新穎性、趣味性、實用性、廣泛性、可讀性；在詞匯等級及難易度控制上，根據(jù)《高等學(xué)校英語專業(yè)英語教學(xué)大綱》詞匯范圍選擇語料。第1冊詞匯量范圍為3500詞，生詞出現(xiàn)率為3%～5%；第2冊詞匯量范圍為4500詞，生詞出現(xiàn)率為3%～5%；第3冊詞匯量范圍為5500詞，生詞出現(xiàn)率為3%～5%；第4冊詞匯量范圍為6500詞，生詞出現(xiàn)率為3%～5%。英語專業(yè)基礎(chǔ)階段共4學(xué)期，本套教材每學(xué)期學(xué)習(xí)1冊，每周學(xué)習(xí)1個單元。
本套教材適用于英語專業(yè)本科基礎(chǔ)階段或英語專業(yè)�？埔约巴人降挠⒄Z讀者。

"Michael laughed. 6 "Hem reminds me of a friend of me, " Frank said. "His department was closing down, but he didn't want to see it. They kept relocating his people. We all tried to talk to him about the many other opportunities that existed in the company for those who wanted to be flexible, but he didn't think he had to change. He was the only one who was surprised when his department closed. Now he's having a hard time adjusting to the change he didn't think should happen. " Jessica said: "I didn't think it should happen either, but my 'Cheese' has been moved more than once. " Many in the group laughed, except Nathan.
"Maybe that's the whole point. " Nathan said. "Change happens to all of us. " He added, "I wish my family had heard the Cheese story before this. Unfortunately we didn't want to see the changes coming in our business, and now it's too late-we're having to close many of our stories. " That surprised many in the group, because they thought Nathan was lucky to be in a secure business he could depend on, year after year.
"What happened?" Jessica wanted to know.
